BBC YOUNG DANCER
TLS Lighting has been involved in the BBC Young Dancer series since its inception in 2015. In March 2019, lighting designer Nigel Catmur, approached TLS Lighting again for their expertise.
Catmur wanted to create a frame around the stage using LED. Working TLS Lighting worked with the BBC Young Dancer technical design team which also included set designer, David Marson and Elstree Light and Power North, to deliver a simple yet effective solution that could be moved around different dance venues each with its own stage architecture.
The team used 5050 RGB 300 LED tape powered by TLS Lighting custom dimmer racks, comprised of DCV DIN rail modules and Mean Well RSP 320-24 PSUs.
TLS Lighting’s Alan Reeves, explained, “In some venues, we were able to attach tape directly to the proscenium arch. However, in theatres without a conventional proscenium, ELP rigged truss to create a frame from the LED. We also converted the system to silent running mode, which is essential for TV.”
