When Merlin Entertainment Group needed impressive illuminations for the London Eye Millennium Pier in 2016, they turned to TLS Lighting. TLS Lighting has enjoyed a long and successful working relationship with Merlin Entertainment Group, having worked with the company on installations for Shrek’s Adventure and at the County Hall Ice Rink.

As a bespoke manufacturer of complete LED systems, TLS Lighting welcomed the brief to create an integrated LED lighting system for the stainless steel handrails that surround the pier providing a safety barrier for the millions of visitors that arrive at the attraction every year.

Working closely with the London Eye’s David Rigby, TLS Lighting designed a system that would not only withstand continuous elemental exposure to meet stringent health and safety criteria but also be very simple and intuitive to control.

For the bespoke design, TLS Lighting custom-made an LED module comprised of 48 RGBW LEDs to create a 24-pixel unit. The full installation, carried out by the London Eye team, required 500 modules, individually controlled via a PixNet long-range controller.

With modules and controls delivered on time, the installation took place and TLS lighting provided valuable technical support to David and his team on site, to ensure a smooth install and an operationally perfect install.

The team at the London Eye are delighted with the overall effect of the bespoke system which has been up and running since the New Year.
